Daily Variety - Trio Looking into 'Future' by David Rooney The "Iron Jawed Angels" trio of producer Lydia Dean Pilcher, director Katja von Garnier and screenwriter Sally Robinson will reteam on a theatrical feature adapted from Alice Hoffman's bestselling novel "The Probable Future." Published last summer by Doubleday, Hoffman's book is a murder mystery centering on three generations of New England women with extraordinary gifts revealed to each on her 13th birthday. When the youngest family member acquires the ability to see how people will die, she asks her father's help to prevent a death she has foreseen, setting off a terrible chain of events. "This is Alice Hoffman's most magical novel to date," said Pilcher. "It deals with the idea that our lives have not one set destiny but a multitude of probable futures that change with every decision we make." Pilcher is developing feature through her New York-based Cine Mosaic banner. She will begin pitching the project for financing this month in Los Angeles. Hoffman's fiction previously served as the source material for Warner's "Practical Magic," and for Myriad's "The River King," now shooting with Nick Willing directing Edward Burns and Jennifer Ehle. Cine Mosaic has a first-look deal with HBO that spawned "Iron Jawed Angels," "Normal," "Disappearing Acts" and "Hysterical Blindness." Company is in post-production on Mira Nair's "Vanity Fair" for Focus Features. Reese Witherspoon stars.
